9 More Years of Water?!

Did you have any idea that we are on the brink of a major water crisis?

Well, Nestle was so concerned about it that they commissioned a report.  Thanks to a 2009 report released by Wikileaks and reported on by Reveal, the cache of emails confirmed private communication between Nestle executives and U.S. government officials warning of water scarcity by 2025 and potentially catastrophic water shortage by 2050.

That’s only 9 YEARS AWAY!  There are places in the world like the Middle East, North Africa and South America that are CURRENTLY battling water shortages.  Nestle starts by pointing out that “1 calorie of meat requires 10 times as much water to produce as a calorie of food crops.  As the worlds growing middle class eats more meat, the earth’s water resources will be dangerously squeezed.”

This is a problem!  Why are the parents in the world not more concerned about the future we are leaving for our kids?!  Americans currently eat on average of 270lbs of meat per year, which is up from 150lbs in the early 1900s.  That is a trend that we have to reverse if we want today’s youth to have fresh water.

How do we do it?  We have to take action!  A person who follows a vegan diet produces 50% less CO2 and uses 1/11th the oil, 1/13th water and 1/18th the land compared to a meat eater!  Let’s start by each of us changing out a meal or two a week and I promise you will see other benefits that will encourage you to change out a few more meals per week!
